About

family

Hi, we are the Henrys.  We live in NE Florida on one acre, with access to seven acres in the middle of suburbia.  Our family includes a computer savvy Daddy, a crafty Momma, two adventurous boys and one sassy and sweet girl!  Our combined interests include creating, good food, entertaining, gardening, playing, computers, sewing, drawing, photograph, anything having to do with toy weapons, science fiction books, homeschooling, family culture, creation, the outdoors, and christian community.  On any given weekend in the summer, you can find us at the beach.  In the winter and spring, we’re enjoying the outdoors just outside our backdoor and come fall we are dreaming of winter and the relief from the never-ending summer heat.  This space documents just a tid-bit of our life, the good times, the experiences we enjoy together and some craftiness.

Thanks for visiting and let us know you stopped by!

Ritz Camera I researched cameras on Ken Rockwell’s site before settling on the D40.  His site has plenty of information to help even the most uneducated buyer.

Where do you mostly buy your fabric?  I find fabric to be really expensive, do you have any other ideas for places to look for fabric at reasonable prices? When I started sewing I bought my fabric at Joann’s (sale rack) and Walmart.   I made it a point to browse the $1 fabric section at Walmart every time I went.  Now that I’ve been exposed to the craft/sewing community online, I’ve purchased online and found a great quilting shop in town that has quality and cool fabric.  I used to think fabric was expensive at the store, but have found that it is more expensive online, though it is really cool fabric and you can look for sales! I would suggest buying the inexpensive to practice and then as you get better, maybe you could splurge a little on the good stuff. You can also buy at thrift stores and garage sales, sometimes people get rid of all their fabric. Also, at thrift stores you can buy a skirt and get a lot of yardage and turn it into curtains, think Sound of Music!

Where did you learn to sew?

I learned to sew in school and from being around my Mom who sews. I remember sewing in Home Ec in Jr. High and then I took a class in college.  Other than that, I’ve just practiced and made lots of stuff.  You can take classes at a super store or try a local quilt shop, support the little guy!  Make sure you take one that will teach you how to read a pattern.  Once you know that basic, you can sew anything!

If you find a fabric that you like how much do you usually buy?

I used to just buy what I needed for a particular project when I had one in mind. Now I’m a browser and buy when I like a fabric and then make something out of it later. I usually buy at least a yard and more if it’s on sale.
