shopping bags

I made a set of grocery bags for my Mom’s birthday in early January. When I made my Mom’s, I cut out six for myself. I have just gotten back to them this weekend. I found the free pattern here.
I’ve never used re-usable grocery bags before, so I wasn’t sure if these would hold up. They proved themselves worthy and carried almost all my groceries for 2 weeks worth of meals. I liked the pattern, but I really don’t like making six of anything at the same time. I’m not an assembly line sewer, but that helpded me finish this project. If I didn’t do it that way, I would end up with only one bag- and that my friends wouldn’t be very much food for my hungry family.
My main motivation for making these bags was so I wouldn’t have a million plastic bags to stuff between my wall and the dryer anymore.

Those are so great. Now you’ll even be a stylish shopper. Any comments when you check out?
Your 100 photos project is looking awesome. I love the one of Sean way up in the tree.
Hey Amy, no comments from the bagger or checker. I was sure they would say something, but they just used them without a word!
OMG – I LOVE these! I’ve been working on burp cloths, nursing covers & baby blankets recently (sister-in-law expecting in April, a couple friends having babies too). I was watching Dr. Oz the other week & washable reusable grocery bags came up as a way we can protect ourselves from the bad stuff at the grocery store (washing our reusable bags). I don’t think the ones I’ve got are really washable in the machine. I’m inspired by your bags….hopefully I’ll get a few made after I’m finished making baby gifts.
Laura: thanks! Fun, glad you are squeezing in some time for sewing. That cute baby girl of yours is getting big!
love the shopping bags, Nancy. Way to go and even though you’re not an assembly line type of gal I am glad you made yourself a few too! hope you all are well.
love yah!
I hate those pesky plastic bags lying around all over my house also. Love the bags!
