I made a set of grocery bags for my Mom’s birthday in early January. When I made my Mom’s, I cut out six for myself. I have just gotten back to them this weekend. I found the free pattern here.

I’ve never used re-usable grocery bags before, so I wasn’t sure if these would hold up. They proved themselves worthy and carried almost all my groceries for 2 weeks worth of meals. I liked the pattern, but I really don’t like making six of anything at the same time. I’m not an assembly line sewer, but that helpded me finish this project. If I didn’t do it that way, I would end up with only one bag- and that my friends wouldn’t be very much food for my hungry family.

My main motivation for making these bags was so I wouldn’t have a million plastic bags to stuff between my wall and the dryer anymore.

I’m having a good time working on the 100 Photos photography project. It’s giving me something to focus on when I pick up my camera. There is a new little widget on the sidebar that has the latest posts from my 100 Photos blog. You can click on the link “Emerald Lane :: 100 PHOTOS” on the left to see what I’m up to. There is a Flickr Group for other 100 Photo Projects as well- check it out!

Yesterday, the kids and I spent the morning raking. It was an amazing day, with clear blue skies and warm temps. We started with long sleeves and gradually peeled off the layers as we raked. The fun of raking wore off quickly for the kids, so they found other things to keep themselves occupied. Erin decided her toy car needed to be washed, she ended up in her bathing suit playing with bubbles. The boys decided that tree climbing was more fun. I ran around – making lunch, helping Erin out with her car washing project, raking more leaves and helping out the boys when they needed a push to the next branch. It was a good day to be outside and enjoy the sunshine.
Today it’s stormy, with thunder and lightning and plenty of rain. Perfect for movies and resting and catching up on blogging.

The kids and I had the chance to join Jay for a business trip in South Florida for a few days earlier in the week. Before we had children, we lived there and met many amazing people that we will be forever tied to. We visited with our friends, hit the beach to play and explored The Gumbo Limbo Nature Center in Boca Raton. The nature center was housing over 60 injured and sick sea turtles because of the surprisingly cold temperatures for South Florida. They normally have room for 7-9 turtles, so they were having to be very creative to house them. It was a fun visit…thanks to our friends that fed us and kept us company!

Erin turned three last week.
Her favorite color is pink.
She had pink pancakes and a pink cake.
So, I made this cake from PW’s cookbook, which happens to be my new favorite right now and added some pink icing,

You might remember that last year my Dad made her a wooden kitchen at my request.
Well, this year he surprised us all with the addition of an ice box.
It is perfect with little wooden handles and it’s personalized with “Erin-Aire” painted on the freezer door.

Her favorite part is the scary wolf. She kept turning it over and uncovering the wolf and making this crazy face and scaring everyone.
My favorite part was spending the afternoon with Erin. She was in her kitchen and I was in mine; coexisting if you will, since hers is right next to mine.

I love fresh starts, a brand-spankin’ new white calendar. I love to plan and fill in what’s going on and get ready for a new year. This year, I’ve already cleaned up the house and rearranged again. There is a good feeling I get when I can move some furniture around and the kids start spending time in a new spot and rediscover toys or crafts or books that we’ve had all along. I’ve got a new schedule all mapped out for us for 2010. I know from experience it’s not going to last, life will get in the way, but a girl has to have some goals and direction doesn’t she.

I wish I could go back and share all that has happened over the month or two since I last posted, but there’s just too much to cover and I just don’t have the words or time for that matter. I want to share photos of Christmas presents I made, but I don’t have the pictures. There were two yoga mat bags, this ball and a Wee Elephant named Peanut, two capes with hoods and a mermaid doll all handmade by me. (photo links are not mine, but found via Google) Our Christmas break was very nice. We stayed home a lot, all together and enjoyed an extended holiday with Daddy home to play games with and just be.
Now it’s back to reality for everyone. It’s cold though. Too cold to play outside. Which is a weird thing for us. I’ve had a fire going most of today and we are expecting really cold temperatures the rest of the week.
I’m starting a new project inspired by my desire to become a better photographer. It is an idea that I found while reading this blog.
