How we did it

Thanks for your comments about Ian’s movie, he was thrilled to know that others were watching it!  I’m trying to respond in the comments section of each post to save time and keep a better dialogue going.  Also, I’ve been updating the look around here, so if you are reading in bloglines, go to the blog to view the new header.  Jay upgraded my version of Wordpress and it has better features for editing so I can actually update the look myself.  I’m very excited about that.  It’s given me new energy to keep this thing going!

Alright, now to the how to.  I read about stop motion animation a while back here and have watched way too many on utube  with the boys.  We’ve talked about wanting to make our own.  With some time on our hands, Ian and I decided to give it a try.

We searched “stop motion” in Google and found this site. The first paragraph mentioned being patient and having time as something to consider before starting this project.  I chuckled quietly to myself, since I knew upfront that I only had time on my side.  Patience is not one of my virtues.

We already had the scene set-up, so we were off to take pictures and make it look like these guys were moving. Once the pictures were taken, 5 minutes later, we downloaded them and then recruited our computer guy for some help via Google chat.  He talked us through the process in Windows Movie Maker. The trickiest part was uploading the music, estimated time: 30-45min, very frustrating but lesson learned. We had the most fun with the story; Ian was belly laughing as he dictated the story to my while I typed.

We have plans to either add to this movie or create a sequel.  This might get addicting!

Captain Brickbeard and his crew defeat the soldiers

Captain Brickbeard and his crew defeat the soldiers

Our first movie

This is a battle between the pirates and the soldiers where the soldiers attack in a row boat armed with a mighty cannon!

The captain is barking out orders, “Hey you, get to your post!” and “Hey you, get to the cannon, FIRE!!” and “Hey you, light the torch and raise the flag for battle.  A-T-T-A-C-K!!”  The pirates are on Loot Island with their pet monkey, Pete, armed with a banana awaiting the soldiers.  The pirate captain is barking out orders on the beach, “Aargh, hide the map and raise the flag!” and “Get Squawky, the parrot, he might help!”  One pirate hits one soldier off into the sea.  The pirate captain kicked a soldier right in the tushie and he went flying off the island!  The other pirate was on the ladder ready to jump and he accidently landed on the pirate captain’s back and got a piggy back ride for free.  When the pirate captain figured out what happened, he flung the pirate into the air and he did a triple somersault, aliooper-twisty spin and rolled in the air and went splat on the row boat and landed on a soldier’s head.  The soldier landed in the cannon and the pirate accidently fired the cannon, shooting the soldier into the air where he bumped into Squawky’s beak head first.  After this, the soldiers abandoned the island and swam away.

More adventures with Captain Brickbeard and his crew COMING SOON!

going for it

Home Studio in progress

I’m taking the plunge and moving my sewing room into a small corner of the office/craft room. This room was originally Jay’s office when we first moved here. Since he moved out to an off-site office the kids and I have taken over.

First, I moved all their craft/school stuff in here along with my computer and officey type things. Then I did a major re-organize and moved down my crafty stuff from upstairs and left all my sewing gear.
I think what provoked this change was some talk of really loving the beach and wanting to live there, which lead to finding happiness where we are. Then, I read a craft magazine which always makes me want to get up and make something.  Finally, I haven’t sewn anything in a while and I need my fix!

I decided to finally move downstairs where the living really happens.  My goal **wink-wink** is to hop in the machine when I have few minutes instead of this computer.

I am finding that living in a home for more than 3 years, that’s a record for us, is proving that one must live a little, move some things around, live some more and then move more things around.  This arrangement will work for a time and then things will have to change that’s just the way I am and I’m getting used to it.  Just not sure my family is!

Back to some sewing and listening, not the fun kind but just some mending. I found a torn hamper that was tucked away in a closet that needs some TLC.
