good tidings

This guy performed his first live solo for a crowd, during my family’s Christmas gathering on Sunday night!

He was so brave to play his sqeaky version of Shortenin’ Bread in front of everyone.

I’m proud of you Ian!

We are all ready for Christmas and the cool weather even came back around for us, so it feels a little like Christmas too!

We wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

thanks

Thanks for all the birthday greetings for Ian.  He is just over the moon to be six and just can’t stop smiling.  Each time he heard everyone sing “Happy Birthday” to him he couldn’t keep the silly smile off his face.

Yes, I did make the pirate ship cake, here’s a link to the recipe.  It was fairly easy to put together, the hardest part was finding the candies to decorate with.  When Ian first spotted the cake online, I thought it would be way out of my league, but once I read the recipe it seemed simple.  Since we are big into pirates around here, we had the pirate figures already and once you add some chopsticks for the mast and some paper sails we were set.

I forgot to metion that Jay and I also dressed up.  Erin also joined in with a very cute piratey shirt and she could be spotted running around with a sword a time or two.  Thanks also goes out to Amy for taking most of the birthday pics including this one.

scenes from EMERALD ISLAND

Yesterday we had a few little pirates over to celebrate.

We played games, ate some yummy treats, played tug-of-war and hunted for treasure.

Thanks to all our friends for making Ian’s party the best!

six

My oldest is six today.  That number just seems so old to me.  Oh, I know they get older, but I never thought we would get there.

I distinctly remember the first days after we brought Ian home from the hospital.  The days of exploding diapers, many, many feedings, not much sleep and thought it would never end.

Now I wake up and he’s next to my bed dressed and ready for the day.  Ready for his good morning hug!

He was all smiles last night while he stayed up late with mom and dad and roasted a marshmellow in the fire.  He was so very excited for today to come and to be S-I-X!!

Oh, what will this year bring?  I’m not sure.

I just hope it doesn’t pass as fast as that last 6 have….happy birthday my sweet son!
