Unwanted Visitor

We found this rat snake trying to make this duck egg his dinner.  It’s mouh was desperately trying to stretch over the egg while we watched in awe.  But, out of respect for the two ducks that are taking care of these eggs, we removed the snake and relocated it far from the nest.  So, if these ducklings make it until hatching day, we will need homes for them.  If anyone is interested, say, my sister who has a pond, they will be available.

Nature Tote

Okay, I’m not going to go on about how long it’s been since I’ve posted.  I know you all are sick of seeing the same pictures and have probably stopped checking to see if I’ve posted lately.  So, I’m just going to say we’ve had great weather and I’ve joined the local YMCA and leave it at that.

This Nature Tote was inspired by the need to use the new fabric that a sweet friend brought back from a trip to NYC.  She visited this really great store and was so kind to think of me and bring me back some lovely fabric.  Thank you, thank you!  Also, I’ve been reading this really cool blog which is all about education, specifically the home variety and art.  So, I love checking in for some good inspiration.  Anyway, Lori over at Camp Creek Press invited the readers to join her in a nature journaling project and the first step was to make a field bag.  This one is made out of an old pair of child’s corduroy overalls and the afore mentioned fabric from here.  It was fun making this tote because it did not come from a pattern.  I just started cutting up the overalls and working with the new fabric and this is what I came up with.  There is also a zippered pouch for pencils and supplies.  I’ll make two more, one for me and one for Ian .  Sean gets this one because he is always pretending he’s a robot!

Happy Monday and I hope it isn’t two weeks again until my next post!

Back to our regularly scheduled programming

Thank you all for your kind emails.  They were all encouraging in their own way and I appreciate them all.

Spring seems to bring all kinds of opportunities to get outside and get together with others for picnics, parties and festivals.  We have been taking advantage of the great weather and the not so great.  We even braved the rain last weekend twice and enjoyed ourselves dispite the wet ground.

A 2 year old birthday party gave me the chance to get back into some craftiness and work with my hands.  The party invitation had a cute farm theme and I wanted to make something that would go with that and be fun to play with.  I wanted to make finger puppets so I did a little research online and found these, which as you can tell I copied, but I’m not selling these, so it’s okay.  I found a cute red metal lunch box at Micheal’s and put some natural bedding inside to place the puppets on.  They were sewn by hand, which I don’t normally like to do, but I actually enjoyed it.

Farm Animal Finget Puppets

This weekend I have a bridal shower to attend and what does a new bride need but a lovely apron!  I saw this apron here (can’t find the actual apron) first and then bought the pattern when Joann’s was having a $1 pattern sale.  When browsing my fabric stash I thought this floral would be perfect, but I didn’t have enough for the whole apron, so I used this coordinating linen/cotton blend.  I started cutting and then discovered I didn’t have enough of the solid, so I had to improvise.  I don’t mind doing that, it’s sort of fun and a challenge.  I like to use what I have and most of the time it ends up looking much better than the original plan.

So, HERE’S to parties and showers and all the motivation a girl needs to get crafty and make something new!  Have a great weekend!

Support

I really want to share this news here in this spot, but I am having trouble coming up with the words, so bare with me.  A few friends and most of our family knew that we were expecting our fourth baby in October of this year, which put me at 9 weeks last week.  I found out while we were all sick with the flu, and let me tell you I was not thrilled like I was when I was expecting my first.  During the 5 weeks that came after the news I was slowly readjusting my mindset about adding to our family and all that comes with that.  Then, came some bad news that yet again had me readjusting and wondering what’s going on.  What next?  I miscarried at 9 weeks.  All I can say is I am doing well physically and I have lots of support locally.  My family has stepped in and helped me with the children and meals.  My friends have been very supportive as well and I must say I feel very loved and cared for.  I am sad, yet I am encouraged by the support of others.  Thank you and sorry for the serious topic, but I really needed to share this.
