Freedom to roam, to explore to dress up like a cowboy. That’s what life is all about. Well, at least for this 3 year old it is. I looked out the kitchen window and there he was with this outfit on, all by himself having a wonderful conversation with himself. Who knows what he was talking about. Could be he was worried about the fence on the back 40 and if the cows would get out or if the calves would be safe from the coyotes. I will never know what he was saying or thinking out there, but it sure makes me happy to know he has the freedom.

I had to crawl around on my hands and knees to get these pictures of Erin in one of the new tops I made her. I’m sure if one of the neighbors was walking by, they would think I’m a nut. But, I was bound to finally capture a picture to share with you. She was not willing to part with her blankie at one point, but then she left the blankie for a pair of sandals to wear on her hands. That’s her new thing. She likes to wear shoes on her hands and crawl around. It’s very helpful when she’s crawling in the grass.

The fabric for the top came from this local shop. I just love the color combinations, they are different than most ready-made clothes you can find in the stores. The pattern is by Simplicity and I made little bloomers to go with the top, but I put her in jeans today so she could crawl on the porch and not mess up her new bloomers.
There is another top that is still in the works. I actually finished it and then decided to take it apart and start over because I didn’t like how it turned out. I’m waiting to get back into my sewing room to finish it up, maybe this Saturday I’ll be able to hide up there for a bit.
Have a great weekend!

We usually check out one or two drawing or craft books from the library each week. This book by Ed Emberely sparked some interest in drawing trees and then an entire jungle with The Henry family on a safari. See that little one crawling? That’s Erin and Sean is in one of the trees getting a coconut. Another favorite of ours from his collection is The Great Thumbprint Drawing Book. It has lots of creative ideas to keep little ones and big ones entertained.
Here is a list of all his drawing books:
- Ed Emberley’s Drawing Book of Animals, Little, Brown, 1970.
- Ed Emberley’s Drawing Book: Make a World, Little, Brown, 1972.
- Ed Emberley’s Drawing Book of Faces, Little, Brown, 1975.
- Ed Emberley’s Big Green Drawing Book, Little, Brown, 1979.
- Ed Emberley’s Big Orange Drawing Book, Little, Brown, 1980.
- Ed Emberley’s Big Purple Drawing Book, Little, Brown, 1981.
- Ed Emberley’s Big Red Drawing Book, Little, Brown, 1987.
- Ed Emberley’s Drawing Book of Weirdos, Little, Brown. 2004
- Ed Emberley’s Drawing Book of Trucks and Trains, Little, Brown. 2004
- Picture Pie: A Circle Drawing Book, Little, Brown, 1990.
- Picture Pie II: A Drawing Book and Stencil, Little, Brown, 1996.
- Ed Emberley’s Great Thumbprint Drawing Book, Little, Brown, 1977.
- Ed Emberley’s Fingerprint Drawing Book, Little, Brown, 2000
One more thing, here is a link to Ed Emberley’s website with some activities and some drawing samplers. Enjoy!

I was standing under this tree and noticed the sun shining through the leaves, it was gorgeous and once again I had to run in the house and grab my camera. The one great thing about trees is they don’t move, like children do when you run to grab your camera. So, it was still there in all it’s beautiful fall coloring (in winter) waiting for me to capture it through my little lense and post for all the world (or just the faithful few) to enjoy! I’m having fun with my camera and hope you to enjoy the beauty that comes from the little clickity click of my little point and shoot.

I’ve been changing things up around here again. I’m working on three years with a blog and sometimes you have to spice things up to keep on going. I started browsing the archives and I like to look back at the same month but a different year and I came across these crazy photos. They are of Ian when he was three years old. He was chasing this poor old rooster with a water gun and giving him a heart attack, as you can tell by the third photo. That one really cracks me up, especially the way the rooster is facing the camera. Click here for a closer look at the pictures and a new look on Flickr. I spent way too much time organizing the photos into collections and new sets. Enjoy!

I know two posts in one day, but this one deserved it’s own post. The words say it all!
Hope your Valentine’s Day was special!

I’m not always grateful that I have the privelage to stay home with my children, well I’m hardly ever. But, when we have a day like yesterday my heart just oozes with gratitude for the chance to share in the moments of my children’s lives and enjoy the beauty around me. We were outside and I looked up and saw this. It made me run in a grab my camera. I wanted to capture the beauty that I saw with my eyes. I’m still learning how to use my little point and shoot and really this picture does not do it (the sky) justice. The white/gray branches almost look like they are covered with ice. A girl from Florida can dream can’t she?

Then, as if the day was not already pretty cool. Ian decided he was going to teach himself how to ride his new (to him) bike without training wheels. We worked with Ian a few weeks ago on his old bike, which is a little larger and he was so scared he was crying after the first try. So, when we were given this bike from some friends I was surprised to see him pick it up and start riding it on his own. He was so excited and thrilled that he was able to do it himself, he looked 5 to me and the little baby in him was gone. I know, it’s just a bike, he’s not driving a car by himself, but it’s just one of those milestones that made me proud but sad. There.

This little guy derserved a spot on the blog today because he’s just so darn cute. After eating some pudding, note the chocolate pudding on his shirt, he grabbed some grapes from inside and gave me this cute smirk and tilted his head just right once he noticed I had the camera and there you have it a picture of Sean holding some grapes.

I was sitting next to Sean while he was drawing and I noticed his hand in his jeans’ pocket. He loves his pockets and you can find him walking around with both hands in his pockets. He just looked too cool and relaxed while he was drawing I couldn’t resist snapping a shot of him.

Enjoy your weekend!

We are still around and enjoying the best weather Florida has to offer. If you ever want to visit us, you must come between now and April, it really is gorgeous. It’s the type of weather where you just can’t bear to stay inside, it draws you out even if you have loads of laundry and dinner is still in the freezer.

We’ve all been creating. I’ve been sewing (I really need to take some pictures soon) and Ian and I have been playing around on the computer. This drawing was done in Microsoft’s Paint program, which I always thought was a really second rate product. After we checked this book out from the library, I don’t think that anymore. We’ve had tons of fun making goofy drawings, including this one by Sean titled Potch Man.

Here is a glance at our Tuesday in pictures. A trip to the lake, the park, some time playing with army men and drawing. Click on the pictures to read more under each picture; I wrote about a few in Flickr.
In other news, I’ve been sewing here and there over the past few weeks. I’m working on some dresses for Erin. Think Valentine’s Day and pantaloones! I finished a shirt for myself that I started last summer. I wore it today even though I’m sure it’s more appropriate for Spring, but heck, we live in Florida and it’s practically Spring-like here already.
Jay gave me a gift certificate for Christmas for a personal color consultation. You know, to determine what colors to look for when buying clothes, make-up and the such, it’s back from the 50’s or 60’s. I’m a warm spring and now I’m armed with my own color wand to use when I go shopping. Can you just see me whipping out my wand and comparing it to the clothes? Which is exactly what I did today- I felt like a total dork, but I got a really cute sweater that goes with my skin tone. I was surprised to find out that most of the shirts in my closet are within my color range, so I haven’t been that far off.
No big plans for the weekend, just plan on watching the big game on Sunday with some friends. Happy Friday!
