fun with light

We have three large windows in the kitchen that face east, so in the morning we are blessed with some intense sunlight.  I usually complain about the sun when I’m sitting there at breakfast and I’m being blinded.  But today, i noticed the great shadows that were being cast on the cabinet and we hung out for some shadow play.  I probaby would have just ignored the shadows this morning and kept on going about our day, but because of some other blogs I’ve read, I noticed.  Our little ones do notice and enjoy the little things without help from us.  I enjoyed wathcing Erin playing with her own shadows on the floor.  She crawled around playing with the light, waving her hands and watching them wave right back.

Have a great weekend, see you in the new week!

answers

I find myself sitting here wanting to write something profound, but nothing is coming to mind.  So, in an attempt to have something to go with the pictures here are some answers to some questions I came across in the blog world.

The Henry's

Do you promote your blog?

No. I just comment on other blogs and I have entered a few crafty show and tells and linked my blog to others.  Some people have found me through those.  I had one person find the blog through a search on a family name that I had written about in a post.

How often do you check hits?

Never.  I don’t kow how to, which is probably a good thing.  If I did, I would probably check daily.

Do you stick to one topic?

Lately I have.  My intention is for this blog to be a reflection of the good times we have in our daily life, the things we make and the things we experience outdoors.

armed and dangerous

Who knows about your blog?

My family and friends and those who have been interested in my creations.

How many blogs do you read?

Too many.  Daily, I read 3-4.  I have a huge list that I check less frequently.  I browse them checking for new posts.

Are you a fast reader?

I am a skimmer when it comes to blogs.  If it’s too long and the paragraphs are huge, I just skip it all together.

Do you customize your blog or do anything technical?

Only with the help of my resident Computer Troubleshooter.  I have played around with the program I use, but I usually mess it up and need help.

Do you blog anonymously?

No. I use realy names and pictures.  Somtimes I worry about putting so much personal information on the web, but I am careful when I’m posting pictures and selecting the type.

To what extent do you censor yourself?

I like to talk about the good things.  I want this blog to be a place of encourgement and inspiration for others living with little ones, those who like to make things and a fun place for my friends and family to catch up with us.

The best thing about blogging?

The connections I’ve made and stregthened.  The inspiration I’ve found through other blogs.  The little notes I receive from those who keep coming back for a visit!

If you are still reading, thanks for the nice comments from my last post.  I believe that’s the most I’ve ever had since I started almost 2 years ago.

what day is it?

So, I am proclaiming myself the worst blogger out there.  I have been on the computer for the past 3 days working on web designs for my dear husband, I’ve browsed a few blogs and I’ve found that others have written and I’m just a few days behind.  I understand if everyone has abandoned me and decided to stop checking back, that’s really not my inspiration, or is it?  Well, it is nice to know that people actually read this thing!

The past few days have been a blur.  I’ve had my head wrapped in web design and it’s fun.  Almost too much fun.  When I get into something, I can’t stop until it’s finished.  I think you know that about me when it comes to sewing, well it’s across the board for sure.  We had a marathon movie day today, with the rain and my obsession with design today and all.  Neeless to say the children, especially Sean, were very enthusiatic about the “rain day”.

I almost forgot to let you all in on my “field trip” last Friday.  Jay and I, minus the children, headed out to the city for a meeting with my former employer about computer stuff.  It was great seeing him and some of my co-workers from back in the day, which I realized was 7 years ago.  Wow!  Things have changed since then around the office more employees, a new layout and a great new website.

The pictures have nothing to do with this post, I just wanted to share them.  They are from Labor Day Weekend, which was also Jay’s Birthday weekend by the way.  We had a great time and I hope to be able to end every summer wih a trip to our favorite place.

::For those of you who check back often, thanks for coming by and for being patient with a Mama who is trying to find some balance in her crazy days.

Hey I’m on a field trip

Off to the city for the morning.  Will let you know about it later.

Setting Free

Our first butterfly experience, thanks to Grammie, was such fun. We received the mason jar with a screen top, on August 27th, with the chrysalis already inside. We knew that it would take around 10-15 days for the butterfly to emerge, so we waited and checked and waited and checked again. This morning, Ian checked and he called me over very excited and told me, “There’s a butterfly in here!” We weren’t expecting it so soon; I believe it took 9 days total.

 Freedom

Last week on an early morning trip to the store for coffee, out again, we picked up some plants to make a butterfly garden. Ian had a big part in selecting the flowers, loading them into the cart, then in and out of the car. By the time we planted, I was on my own, but it was fun for us all to get out early before the heat set in and enjoy some of the outdoors for a change. Today, we let the butterfly go in our newly planted butterfly garden and it dried it’s wings until it was ready for it’s first flight. I didn’t plan to study butterflies, it just sort of happened. Once we were given the chrysalis, then we checked out books, rented movies, and planted the flowers. It’s a nice feeling when things just fall into place and we learn when the opportunity comes to us.
