After I got all the ingredients out to make sandwiches, this butterfly happened instead. Roll up some lunch meat then add a slice of american cheese, that has been divided in half, for the wings. Use carrot sticks for the antena and add sliced strawberries for decoration. That’s it and the kids have a fun lunch that’s easy to make!

The “Kids Garden” is coming along and now has pine straw covering most of the dirt covered areas. As you can see, the cucumber house is a fine climbing structure; sturdy enough for my boys. There have been a few “woozle” sitings, but they don’t dare come close for fear of being caught by my wild guys!
Correction: It’s not “sitings”, but “sightings”. Yes, much better!

Introducing my “country” version of Hilary’s Wee Wonderful, the Big Footed Bunny! She is made out of pink and white gingham and my favorite vintage chenille, which I’ve used for other projects; that bedspread just keeps on giving! Her ears just wouldn’t stay up like the pattern photo, even after I tied bows around them! But, I think she’s pretty cute and she looks like she’s waiting for a big hug from Baby Erin!
If you were wondering what Priscilla is sitting next to, then let me fill you in. I’m not sure of the proper name, but it is a wooden basket purse with a wooden handle that was hand-painted by my Grandmother, we all call her “Lucy”. Lucy is not her real name, but the one that was given to her by the oldest grandchild and as I’m writing this, I’m not even sure of the reason. Mom, could you help me out, I forget? Anyway, the purse is hand-painted and decopaged with little humle children and it has my name painted on it. The inside is lined with a quilted holly hobby fabric and there is a tag sewn in that says “Handmade by Grandma.” I came across this treasure the other day at my Mom’s house, it was just there under the bathroom cabinet waiting for me to remember it. I do feel bad that it was left behind for many years, but now it has a place in my entryway for all to see and for me to appreciate and enjoy! Thanks Lucy and thank you Mom for storing it for me!

We are off to a 1st Birthday Party for our friend’s little girl on Saturday and I thought this little dress and hat would be perfect for her! I found the hat pattern online here and of course the dress is just like this one that I posted about recently. I am totally into these hats; very easy and fun to make!

I wanted to make a bucket hat with a wide brim, so I was back on the internet to find some help. I found some here and here, but I was driving myself crazy with the math, so I just guessed at it until I got the dimensions right. I like it, but I am going to combine both patterns and make another one with a beanie top and a wide flat brim next!

Over the weekend the weather dropped down to the 60’s during the day, so Erin was able to wear this cozy hat. It was made by my dear friend Marce, who happens to be the craziest knitter I know. Crazy in the good way; crazy for knitting and good at it! It is made out of wool and it is so soft and warm; perfect for my little pumpkin’s head, don’t ya’ think?

It all started with an idea I had just before I went to bed, which then led to some sketches that I turned out in the middle of that sleepless night. Yep, I was up in the middle of the night, not because my 2 month old wouldn’t go back to sleep, just because I couldn’t go back to sleep. The plan is for a “Kids Garden”, equipped with a “cucumber house” that looks like “Eeyore’s House” from Pooh, sunflower borders, a stepping stone path lined with flowers, a watermelon and cantalope patch, and a sign to warn visitors of the Woozles running around! (you know what a woozle is?) I’m too tired to write more so I’ll let the pictures tell the rest of the story……

Ian and I were talking one morning at breakfast about what we wanted to plant in our Spring Garden this year. Ian decided that he wanted to plant chocolate chips and went on to say, “they were for a chocolate chip cookie tree garden!” That little discussion, spurred an idea! After breakfast, with the dishes still on the table, we started our book. Ian was the illustrator and I was the actual writer, since he doesn’t write yet and he helped me with some of the words. It’s about a little boy named Ian and his family and how he planted chocolate chips and grew Chocolate Chip Cookie Trees! Does that sound familiar? It’s not original or even well written, but it gave us something to do, that we were excited about! Maybe, I was more excited than he was, he lost interest after he was done drawing and I had to finish writing it. We did learn how a book was laid out, the title page and where the author/illustrators name is. Later that day we made chocolate chip cookies to go with our book. We didn’t plant any chocolate chips though, we needed them all for our cookies and some to snack on while baking!

Other Spring book ideas/themes:
:: Sunflowers - plant sunflowers in pot or in the yard (they grow quickly, fun to watch)
:: Frogs – collect tadpoles from local pond in a jar to watch them change!
:: Pizza Herb Garden – plant all the herbs for pizza in a pot or in the yard and then make a pizza!
