Aunt Ruth! You are the 1st blog anniversary comment drawing winner and your prize will be arriving some time this week as soon as the buttons are sewn on. That’s all I’m going to tell. It’s a secret! I just need your current address, so email me and I’ll pop it in the mail.
In other crafting news, I made a floor checker board out of fabric squares and Jay is planning on making the checker’s pieces out of wood once he finds the perfect tree to cut down. The idea came from the checker board rugs from Cracker Barrel. We borrowed one from next door to teach Ian to play, which we found out it’s way too early to attempt.
I am also very excited about making a vintage bag out ouf this faux black suede and black and green houndstooth fabric I bought the other day. It was intended for the checker board, bud I decided it would make quite a dashing bag for fall/winter. I’m going to use a pattern from this book my good friend Marce sent me. I realized the other day I haven’t made anything from it yet, shame on me.
Speaking of Marce, we received some mail from her neck of the woods last week. She knitted hats and mittens for the boys as part of a trade. I made blankets and bibs for her niece and nephew. She got the raw end of the deal, because I know knitting is alot harder than sewing, but I am glad we did trade. Sean didn’t want to take off his mittens to have his snack and wore his hat all afternoon.
I leave you with a picture of Ian with Petunia during here playtime out of the barn. You can see how big she is compared to Ian. This little venture included frolicking around and a swim in the pond where she dunked her entire head under. I wish I captured a shot of that, but I didn’t have my camera yet. I need to carry it around with me everywhere!

These shots are great!! And I beg to differ, I think your handiwork at the sewing machine is worth those knitted goods and then some!
LOVE that shot of Ian and Petunia (tee hee), and I’m so glad you’ve found a pattern in the book to put your talents to!

Oh! I forgot to say – the checkerboard idea is a GREAT one! Maybe I’ll have to commission your hubby to make some extra large pieces for us so I can have an excuse to knit a large checkerboard!
Ooh, a knitted checker board. I love it! The one I made was about 24″ x 24″, and the pieces are going to be 3″ diameter. I would love to see a knitted one and find out how much time it takes to knit. Mine took about 3 hours to sew, give or take interruptions!
I love the picture of Petunia & Ian! It’s too cute!
Also, LOVE the checker board…look forward to seeing the wood pieces whenever the perfect tree is found for them.
What nice work Marce did on the hats & mittens….I’m a couple decades away from attempting those — scarves are about it for me for awhile.
I have emailed you with my address. Sorry I haven’t checked in in a week or so. I am SO excited to be the winner. I really never expected to be.
The checkerboard is great and I love Petunia. She is a pet now, right? Not a meal to come later?
Love, Aunt Ruth
